RIP: Zig Ziglar (1926 – 2012)

Zig Ziglar passed today. In honor of his many contributions I have collected a sampling of his wise words:

“If you can dream it, then you can achieve it. You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

“I believe that being successful means having a balance of success stories across the many areas of your life. You can’t truly be considered successful in your business life if your home life is in shambles.”

“Building a better you is the first step to building a better America.”

“Every choice you make has an end result.”

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

“A lot of people quit looking for work as soon as they find a job.”

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

“If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.”

“It’s not what you’ve got, it’s what you use that makes a difference.”

“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”

“A goal properly set is halfway reached.”

“If you want to reach a goal, you must “see the reaching” in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal.”

“Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.”

“You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”

“The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty.”

“If you learn from defeat, you haven’t really lost.”

“Failure is a detour, not a dead-end street.”

“Remember that failure is an event, not a person.”

“Every obnoxious act is a cry for help.”

“If you don’t see yourself as a winner, then you cannot perform as a winner.”

“When you are tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you.”

“You cannot tailor-make the situations in life but you can tailor-make the attitudes to fit those situations.”

“You can make positive deposits in your own economy every day by reading and listening to powerful, positive, life-changing content and by associating with encouraging and hope-building people.”

“You cannot perform in a manner inconsistent with the way you see yourself.”

“Do you have habits, or do your habits have you?” – Brian Tracy I heard that  this morning while listening to his audio program “Focal Point” (one of my favorite programs of his) in the car. It hit me particularly hard as I know, deep-down, that many of my habits don’t serve me, and they…

  • Learn to Count

When angry count to ten before you speak. If very angry, count to one hundred. – Thomas Jefferson I love this. It reminds me of the following exchange between The Buddha and a young man: Young Man: Master how long will it take for me to achieve enlightenment? Gautama Buddha: It all depends on you…

By thought, the thing you want is brought to you. By action, you receive it. – Wallace Wattles I would tweak Wattles’ language to the following: By thought, the thing you want is brought close to you. By acting you bring it into your life. Maybe that’s what Wattles meant, and we’re (or just me…

  • What Do You Expect? Of Yourself?

High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation. – Jack Kinder So many people have low expectations. It’s “safer” that way. If you don’t want much, you can avoid “failure.” The thing is there’s no such thing as failure, just results. Sometimes the results are not what we desired and/or anticipated. That’s…

  • The Worst Phrase Ever

A little quickie for your Monday morning: The worst phrase, just about ever, is “I can’t do that because… ” I’ve been hearing that a fair bit lately, or I’ve been noticing more lately. Mostly it’s others saying it, but sometimes it’s – in one for or another – in my head. When we say I can’t…

  • Above All, Be Well.

The First wealth is health. – Emerson Without your health you cannot serve. If you cannot serve you cannot deliver value. If you cannot deliver value you cannot earn rewards. Thus to earn anything – money, friendship, reciprocation, anything – you must focus on, and continually attend to, your health. Your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health….
