Emotional Maturity and Responsibility

After reading a message from a (virtual) mentor, Steve Chandler, I was inspired to write about the difference between “have-to” and “want-to” or “get-to.”

To boil it down, if you’re an adult and you don’t view everything in life as something you want to do or get to do (or, I suppose something you are doing) you’re stuck in a victim mindset and living an immature emotional life.

When you’re an adult you have the choice to be responsible or not.

To take ownership of where you are in life and the things you choose to do.

You can lament what you “have to do” or you can recognize that your choices created your life and brought you to wherever you are.

Or, you can continue to play the part of victim and wish things were different or whine and complain about what you don’t have or have to deal with.

It may be hard at first, but taking full responsibility is the gateway to a full, rich life.

Ideas must work through the brains and the arms of good and brave men, or they are no better than dreams. – Emerson Ideas are nothing, really, without action. • The “Rules”

While reading this afternoon I came across something interesting: in addition to the Golden Rule (which everyone knows about) and the Platinum Rule (which I learned about in the last couple years, and few know about), there’s the Silver Rule (which hardly anyone knows about, and I didn’t until about 3:00 PM). As we know,…
