Learners Are Earners

Formal education will earn you a living, self education will earn you fortune. – Jim Rohn

You know the quickest way to irrelevancy in the 21st Century?

Stop learning.

The world is extremely connected and competitive and the pace of change is accelerating.

You simply can’t finish school (whether it be undergraduate, graduate or professional) and think: “Oh, I’m done with my education, I can get to work now.”

The world will eat your lunch.

That’s not to say that you need to go back to school.

Hardly.

But you do need to continue to develop personally and professionally.

You need to develop communication, collaboration and leadership skills.

And you need to keep up on industry and social trends and learn the new skills and technologies necessary to stay relevant.

If you do you will continue to be valuable and will be compensated accordingly.

If you refuse to meet this on-going challenge, you won’t.

Yes, that’s right growth, not “stress.” Turns out that a sub-set of soldiers returning from combat actually grow from the terrible experience of combat. Another interesting finding is that most of…

Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside. – Ramana Maharshi I have been thinking a lot about how “personal development” works. How do we live a “good” life? How do we achieve our goals? How do we exist in a…

  • Compete Against Yourself

Recently, on my Facebook  Page I posted a quote from Steve Young (former professional (American) football player) that reminded us to compete against ourselves, to be better that we were before. I was reminded of that idea (and it’s great advice . . . ) when I read Seth Godin’s most recent blog post; here…
