No Such Thing As Failure

Like success, failure is many things to many people. With a positive mental attitude, failure is a learning experience, a rung on the ladder, a plateau at which to get your thoughts in order and prepare to try again. – W. Clement Stone

One of my defining beliefs on failure comes from Tony Robbins: there’s no such thing as failure because everything produces a result.

We believe we “failed” at something because we don’t get the exact result we wanted.

That’s a small, sad, limiting way to go through life.

There’s an alternative.

What if everything – even the tragic – contained at least a grain of benefit? It does, whether or not we ignore the potential lesson/benefit. (Of course, in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy or loss, it is virtually impossible – and certainly not appropriate – to ponder the “good,” but it’s there for the finding later.)

Everything produces a result, therefore nothing “fails.” We may not like the results, but they are there just the same. How will we treat the results – especially when things don’t go according to plan?

Will we use results or struggle against them?

There are learners and resisters.

Which you choose to be will determine your experience of life.
