The Keys to Success

The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty. – Zig Ziglar

Normally, people think of these things in terms of outward expressions of the above, but what if they were viewed through an inward looking lens?

What if instead of thinking what you need to, or should, do outside of yourself to be successful, you started with you?

Consider the following:

Honesty – what are you not telling yourself the truth about? Anything built on lies or half-truths is doomed to failure. What is something that you need to be honest with yourself about?

Character – what behaviors do you need to stop? What are you doing that you know is less-than-honorable? What are you doing that you would not admire in others?

Faith – what do you need to trust? What is something that you must believe in, first? While it might be a bit scary to have “faith” in something, it may well be necessary to believe in it – first – to create it.

Love – what do you need to fall in love with? Is it hard work? An aspect of yourself? Often, the most important thing you can do is find an unforgiven/unloved part of your Self and make peace with it. What are you worried people might “find out” about you? That’s most likely something you need to illuminate/forgive/release.

Loyalty – what is something that calls out for your sustained attention and love? What requires a long-term commitment? Not a day, or a week, or a month, but sustained, consistent, maybe even intense, attention and commitment?

Warning: more Seth-Godin-fawning ahead . . . . Today’s email from Seth had such a great message. It’s a great reason to employ the Platinum Rule (treat others how they would like to be treated). The path to a better life is more of a mining operation than a manufacturing one. – George Pransky What I think Pransky is saying here is that having a better life (which comes from being (behaving as) a better person) comes not from getting something from outside yourself or making yourself into something else,…

By thought, the thing you want is brought to you. By action, you receive it. – Wallace Wattles I would tweak Wattles’ language to the following: By thought, the thing you want is brought close to you. By acting you bring it into your life. Maybe that’s what Wattles meant, and we’re (or just me…
