The Keys to Success

The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty. – Zig Ziglar

Normally, people think of these things in terms of outward expressions of the above, but what if they were viewed through an inward looking lens?

What if instead of thinking what you need to, or should, do outside of yourself to be successful, you started with you?

Consider the following:

Honesty – what are you not telling yourself the truth about? Anything built on lies or half-truths is doomed to failure. What is something that you need to be honest with yourself about?

Character – what behaviors do you need to stop? What are you doing that you know is less-than-honorable? What are you doing that you would not admire in others?

Faith – what do you need to trust? What is something that you must believe in, first? While it might be a bit scary to have “faith” in something, it may well be necessary to believe in it – first – to create it.

Love – what do you need to fall in love with? Is it hard work? An aspect of yourself? Often, the most important thing you can do is find an unforgiven/unloved part of your Self and make peace with it. What are you worried people might “find out” about you? That’s most likely something you need to illuminate/forgive/release.

Loyalty – what is something that calls out for your sustained attention and love? What requires a long-term commitment? Not a day, or a week, or a month, but sustained, consistent, maybe even intense, attention and commitment?

Walking Out of Safety

He who is outside his door has the hardest part of his journey behind him. – Dutch proverb

The hardest thing about anything is starting.

Not because the first step is the hardest of the steps, compared to the others.

But because there is Safety and anything (and everything) else.

It’s kinda like going swimming in cool water.

Is it uncomfortable to get wet? To jump in? To go from warm and dry to not warm and dry?

But once you’re in, any drop of water isn’t any cooler than any other.

And you get used to it.

So jump in.

Walk through the door.

Begin the journey.

What About You?

Everyone wants to be appreciated.  So if you appreciate someone, don’t keep it a secret. – Mary Kay Ash

Is it a wonderful, great, generous idea and practice to acknowledge and appreciate others?

But you can’t give what you don’t see in yourself.

What can you appreciate about you today?

Take a minute and, sincerely, appreciate you.

Then, take that feeling, that deep understanding of how you’re worthy and talented, and project it outward.

The Best Reason to Love

Love is always bestowed as a gift — freely, willingly, and without expectation. We don’t love to be loved, we love to love. – Dr. Leo Buscaglia

Just a gentle reminder of what we can’t remember enough.

Are You Preparing to Fail?

If you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail. – John Wooden

How prepared are you for today?

For tomorrow?

For the inevitable challenges of life?

For the inevitable opportunities of life?

Search your self, your soul, and answer the question truthfully.

And then get busy . . .
